Save the guides for offline use

In a real emergency the internet and mobile signal may be among the first things to go. Save the guides and tools on this phone, tablet or computer now, and they will open with no connection at all. It is free and takes a minute.

You're offline

The page you asked for isn't saved on this device. Everything ticked below is saved and will open without a connection.

1. Save everything on this device

This saves the four guides to read online, every tool and the home page: about 5 to 10 MB. Pages you open are also saved as you browse, and saved copies refresh themselves whenever you visit with a connection.

2. Install it like an app (optional)

An icon on your home screen or desktop opens the guides in their own window, even offline. Nothing is downloaded from an app store, and it uses the saved copies above.

iPhone and iPad (Safari)

  1. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
  2. Choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  3. Open it from the new icon, come back to this page there and tap Save the guides and tools. On iPhone the home-screen app keeps its own saved copies, separate from Safari.

Android (Chrome, Samsung Internet)

  1. Tap the ⋮ menu (or ≡ in Samsung Internet).
  2. Choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Press Save the guides and tools above, if you haven't yet.

Computer (Chrome, Edge)

  1. Click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or the menu, then Install (Edge: Apps, then Install this site as an app).
  2. Firefox and Safari on a Mac keep the saved copies too: bookmark this page.

Good to know

Keeping it up to date

  • Saved pages refresh themselves each time you open them with a connection.
  • Come back now and then and press Save again to refresh everything at once.

What can delete it

  • Clearing your browser's data or "cache", phone clean-up apps, or uninstalling the browser.
  • Private or incognito windows, which forget everything when closed.

Don't rely on one device

  • Batteries run flat. Print the pocket guides and keep them with your kit (free PDFs).
  • Save it on every family phone, and keep a power bank charged.
